In the IUB and IUPUI STCs and RTCs, how do I log in or log out?
For information regarding the standards and practices governing use of the Indiana University Bloomington Student Technology Centers (STCs), see Student Technology Centers standards and practices.
For information regarding the standards and practices governing use of the IUPUI STCs, see STC Policies.
To log into or out of an IUB or IUPUI STC or Residential Technology Center (RTC) computer, follow the appropriate set of directions below.
Windows
Logging in
Windows computers in the STCs and RTCs display a login prompt. To log in, you need an ADS domain account; you will have created an ADS domain account when you ran the Starter Kit to create your first IU computing accounts.
To log into the computer:
- Press
Ctrl-Alt-Del.
- In the resulting dialog box, in the "User name:" field, type your
username.
- In the "Password:" field, type the passphrase for your ADS domain
account. Unless you've changed it, this is the passphrase you chose
when you first received your account. (Various services use different
sources for authentication. Thus, if you have different
passphrases for different IUB accounts, you should synchronize your
passphrases; for more information, see At IU, how do I change or synchronize my Network ID passphrase?)
- Click
OK.
Logging out
For the security of your account, before leaving an STC or RTC, you should always log out of your computer; for more, see Best practices for securing your computer, accounts, and data.
- Press
Ctrl-Alt-Del.
- In the resulting dialog box, click
Log Off....
- If prompted whether you are sure you want to log out, click
Yes.
Macintosh
Logging in
When you sit down at a computer in a Mac OS X STC or RTC and click the mouse button, you'll see a login prompt. To log in, you need an IU Network ID and an ADS domain account. To log into the computer:
- In the "Username" field, type your username.
- In the "Network Password" field, type your IU Network ID
passphrase. Unless you've changed it, this is the passphrase you chose
when you received your IU Network ID.
- Click
OK. You'll see a screen reminding you to log out. Click the mouse button to continue.
Logging out
For the security of your account, before leaving an STC or RTC, you should always log out of your computer; for more, see Best practices for securing your computer, accounts, and data.
