Mac OS X

Note: Your Mac OS X account name must be the same as your Network ID username. For more, see At IUB or IUPUI, using Mac OS X, how do I print from my personal computer to an RTC or STC printer?

Getting and installing the utility

  1. Download the IU Printer Finder utility:

  2. Log in if needed, and then click Download.

  3. For version 2.x, locate the .zip file you downloaded. Run the file from there, or move it to your Applications folder.

For version 1.x, the disk image should mount automatically. If not, locate the Printer Utility.dmg file and double-click it to open it and mount the disk image. Then, drag the Printer Finder icon to your Applications folder.

Using the utility

For version 2.x:

  1. Select your desired campus, building, and printer from the pull-down menus. Information about the selected printer will display in the "Printer Description:" box.

  2. Once you've found the printer you want to use, click Add Printer. It will be added to your list of available printers in the Print & Fax System Preference pane.

  3. In most cases, the utility will automatically set the correct driver (PPD); however, if you need to specify the driver manually or otherwise adjust the driver's settings:

    1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences. In the "Hardware" section, select the Print & Fax icon.

    2. Select the printer you added, and then click Options & Supplies.

    3. Click the Driver tab and select the driver to use from the "Print Using:" pop-up menu; otherwise, set driver-specific options (if any).

The printer will now be available in the program from which you want to print.

For version 1.x:

  1. When prompted, supply your Network ID, and then click OK.

  2. Select your desired campus, building, and printer from the pull-down menus. Information about the selected printer will display in the "Printer Properties" section.

  3. Once you've found the printer you want to use, click Add Printer. It will be added to your list of available printers in the Print Setup Utility. Be sure to note the type of printer in the "Printer Properties" section.

  4. This utility uses a generic PostScript driver (PPD) for all installed printers. To use a printer-specific driver:

    1. Open the Applications folder, and then the Utilities folder. Open the Printer Setup Utility.

    2. Select the printer you added. Then, from the Printers menu, select Show Info.

    3. Make sure "Printer Model" is shown in the menu at the top of the window; if not, select it.

    4. From the Local Raw Printer or Generic PostScript Printer menu, select the brand of the printer and the model number from the list that appears. (This is the printer type you noted in step 3 above.)

To use the printer, find the document you wish to print, and from within its application, from the File menu, select Print. From the list of printers, select the printer you added in the steps above.
