At IU, how do I reset my passphrase using the Self-Service Passphrase Reset system?

Note: You must have previously enrolled in the system, and established your identifying questions and answers there, to reset your passphrase in this manner. For information about enrolling in the system, see At IU, how do I enroll in the Self-Service Passphrase Reset system?

To reset your passphrase using the Self-Service Passphrase Reset system:

  1. Go to the Passphrase Maintenance page at: https://passphrase.iu.edu/
  2. In the section labeled "Forgot my passphrase:", click go here to reset your passphrase.

Note: You will need to know your 10-digit University ID number to carry out the passphrase reset; see the Self-Service Passphrase Reset Information page or At IU, what is a University ID, and how do I find out what mine is?

  3. Click Start to begin the reset process.

Note: Once you click Start, you will have a limited amount of time to successfully complete the process. If you do not complete it in that time, you will be locked out and unable to resume the Self-Service reset process. If you are locked out, contact your campus Support Center for assistance.

  4. Enter your last name, date of birth, and University ID number in the fields provided. Enter the code provided in the last field. Click Continue.

  5. For each question, enter the answer you provided when you enrolled in the system; be careful to spell your responses correctly. Click Continue.

  6. When you have successfully answered the questions, you will be able to choose a new passphrase; follow the guidelines on the page or see Passwords and passphrases. Enter and re-enter your passphrase in the fields provided, and then click Reset Passphrase.

  7. Click Exit to close the window and exit the Self-Service Passphrase Reset.
