Project: Microsoft Office Live Workspace pilot
Primary UITS contact: Nicole Lyon
Last update: June 27, 2008
Description: This project will pilot Microsoft Office Live Workspace.
Outcome: Microsoft has asked IU to help with a small pilot for Microsoft Office Live Workspace. The goal is to evaluate how Office Live Workspace will work in our current environment in conjunction with the student email and other initiatives. With student, faculty, and staff participation, we will provide feedback to Microsoft on its use.
Milestones and status:
- October 22, 2007: Educause press release
- November 2007: Delivery of VIP accounts for pilot
- November 2007: VIP accounts generated and sent for use until December 31, 2007
- December 2007: VIP accounts disabled December 31, 2007
- January 2008: Microsoft has made the Workspace available for customers to have access to beta accounts with priority to IUPUI and IUB customers. Anyone can register to have a beta account to use the Workspace.
- Spring/summer 2008: Students who choose Imail, powered by Microsoft, for their student email account can use the Workspace with this account; they will not need a beta account to use the Workspace.
- June 27, 2008: The small pilot that was created to test the
Workspace has been completed. Students who choose Imail, powered by
Microsoft, will automatically have a Workspace account that they can
begin using. Faculty and staff will be able to use the Workspace by
registering a non-IU (not
username@indiana.eduorusername@iupui.edu) account. Documents that are stored on the Workspace are owned by the user and not by Microsoft.
Benefits:
- Ability to access documents from anywhere. Users can save and
store over 1,000 office documents to one location and access those
documents via the web.
- Ability to share and collaborate. Users will be able to view and
comment on documents while in their web browsers. Even users without
Microsoft Office software will be able to view and share documents.
- Ability to access Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) via the web
