Connecting to IU Secure in Mac OS X 10.5 or later

Note: To gain full Internet access for your device on the IU Secure network, you must register the device's MAC address. Before registering your MAC address, your device will be able to connect to IU Secure, but will not receive an IP address that allows a successful Internet connection. For more, see Registering your computer on the IU network

Mac OS X Lion (10.7)

To connect Mac OS X Lion to the IU Secure network, download and use the IU Secure Configuration Profile for Lion and iOS from IUware.

  1. After downloading, if the profile install does not start, double click the IU_Secure_Wi-Fi_Network.mobileconfig file in your Downloads folder.

  2. When asked whether you wish to install the new IU Secure configuration, click Continue.

  3. When prompted, enter your IU Network ID, and then click Install.

Note: You may also be asked to authenticate to your local computer with your administrative username and password.

Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6

To connect Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 to the IU Secure network, you can either use the IU Secure Assistant from IUware, or follow the instructions below to manually configure your computer.

Note: Use these instructions to configure Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later to connect to the IU Secure SSID with AirPort. For Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), see Connecting to IU Secure in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

  1. From the AirPort menu, select IU Secure.

  2. When prompted, enter your IU Network ID.

  3. When prompted to verify the certificate, click Show Certificate and verify that:

    • The certificate is signed by "Thawte Premium Server CA" or "thawte Primary Root CA".
    • The certificate name is net-auth-1.noc.iu.edu.

  4. Check Always trust "net-auth-1.noc.iu.edu" and click Continue.

Note: Due to a bug in Leopard, you may be prompted to verify the certificate more than once. You should not have to verify the certificate more than twice.

  5. You should now be connected to the IU Secure SSID; if you are prompted for your credentials again, enter your IU Network ID.

  6. From the AirPort menu, select Open Network Preferences....

  7. Click Advanced..., and click the 802.1X tab in the resulting window.

  8. In the left column, User Profiles, click WPA: IU Secure.

  9. In the list next to "Authentication:", only PEAP should be checked. Uncheck all other boxes.
