Project: Indiana CTSI portal development

Primary UITS contact: Dr. William K. Barnett, Research Technologies

Last update: March 13, 2009

Description: The goal of this project is to develop an Indiana CTSI portal. The Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), based on a $25 million National Institutes of Health grant, was announced on May 29, 2008, as a partnership between IU and Purdue. The CTSI portal, called the Indiana CTSI HUB, is based on Purdue's HUBzero platform, which uses the Joomla! content management system.

Outcomes: The CTSI HUB is designed to be the central clearinghouse for translational research activities for health care researchers at the IU School of Medicine and ultimately across the state of Indiana. It is a statewide laboratory for transforming health sciences research and health care delivery. The goals of the CTSI are to create research acceleration programs and support pilot projects, train a new cadre of translational researchers, foster robust community engagement, build facile and comprehensive resources and technologies, and leverage the resources of the greater Indiana community.

Status: A preliminary portal has been set up at http://www.indianactsi.org for development. The first generation of services delivered are:

  • A grant management system for internal CTSI grants
  • A clinical trials listing system
  • A public engagement portal
  • Online educational programs such as training for human subjects research
  • Integrated 'deep web' searches of publications, clinical trials, events, and Hub contributions

The next set of services planned are:

  • Federated Identity (InCommon) authentication
  • A searchable database of grants activity
  • An online inter-institutional marketplace for core services.
  • Group collaboration tools
  • Tools for researcher social networking

Benefits: The ability of IUSM researchers to discover translational resources that will serve to catalyze broader ("bench to bedside") research

Primary clients: IU and Purdue health care researchers and ultimately practitioners, industry partners, and the public across Indiana. Secondary clients include researchers at other CTSIs across the country.

Comment process: Send comments to the Advanced IT Core team.
