Software available through IU's agreement with Microsoft

Following is information about software available through IU's software agreement with Microsoft, and how to obtain it.

On this page:

Software for students, faculty, and staff

Acquiring the software

Most Microsoft software is available free from IUware at:

http://iuware.iu.edu/

Alternatively, you can purchase Microsoft software media at your campus bookstore. At IUPUI, it is also available for purchase at the Ruth Lilly Medical Library.

Notes:

  • You will be required to show a valid student, faculty, or staff identification card to make purchases.

  • All software purchased on media under this agreement is nonrefundable. You cannot trade one version for another; for example, if you previously purchased Windows XP and want Windows Vista instead, you must purchase it separately.

  • When Microsoft releases new versions of Windows, IU students, faculty, and staff will be able to upgrade to these new versions by purchasing the media from a campus bookstore for a nominal fee. Essentially, once you buy a Microsoft operating system, for the duration of the contract you can upgrade it to the latest version with no additional licensing fee. Some operating system updates are also available for download from IUware.

  • Microsoft Access database products are not available for Mac OS X.

Note: Microsoft's licensing of its operating systems requires you to obtain an operating system when you buy a new computer. Essentially, you may not omit the operating system from any computer you purchase, nor receive credit from Microsoft or its distributors as a result of the IU/Microsoft Campus Agreement. You may, however, upgrade any copy of an older operating system under the Campus Agreement. For more information, see Does IU's agreement with Microsoft mean that I don't have to buy an operating system with my new computer?
