MS SQL Server and IIS accounts for classes at IU

If you are an IU instructor who wants to have sample Microsoft SQL Server (and IIS) accounts for a class, make sure that you are familiar with and meet all deadlines and requirements.

Deadlines and requirements

Several months in advance

  • You are responsible for acquiring and making arrangements for any additional software other than MS SQL Server and the IIS Server.

  • IUB instructors: For any software or special configurations you will need in the Student Technology Centers (STCs), contact Productivity Services Development and Delivery (PSDD) well in advance (usually several months) and provide the software and proof of licensing.

For STC deadlines and information, see the STC web page.

In addition, contact UITS to check feasibility and compatibility of software applications or client tools that will potentially use the UITS MS SQL Server as a backend. Send email to Enterprise Decision Support Services.

At least one month in advance

  • Contact UITS at least one month in advance to establish the feasibility of using the UITS MS SQL Server in the class and for preliminary planning. Fill out the online request form.

Two weeks before using SQL Server

  • Use the online request form again to send your list of student IU Network ID usernames at least two weeks before the date that the MS SQL Server/IIS accounts are needed. This two-week period not only includes account creation, but a period for instructors' testing. Instructors are expected to test the accounts and MS SQL Server/IIS environment, in the actual labs they will use, well before demonstrations and assignments.

Other information

  • UITS will delete all student accounts two weeks after the last day of class. Individual account extension requests must be received before the end of the course. Approval will be subject to space considerations.

  • UITS cannot promise up-to-the-minute recovery of accounts. Further, UITS does not offer recovery of data for individual accounts in cases where data loss is the result of user error. UITS encourages all users to maintain copies of all scripts as a sensible measure.

  • UITS staff are available from approximately 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. If you schedule labs or class assignment due dates during the evenings and weekends, UITS staff will not be available for immediate problem resolution.
