At IU, on a Windows Mobile 6.1 device, how do I configure an IMAP connection?
At Indiana University, to configure an IMAP connection on a Windows Mobile 6.1 device:
Note: There may be some differences between devices.
- Tap the
Startmenu, thenPrograms, thenMessaging, and thenSetup E-Mail.
- Enter your email address. (You may need to click
Next.)
- Uncheck
Try to get e-mail setting automatically from the Internet. TapNext.
- Under your email provider, select
Internet e-mail. TapNext.
- Enter your name and the name you want to use for the account. Tap
Next.
- For the incoming mail server, enter the server name that
corresponds to your mail service:
Imail pod51000.outlook.comUmail imap.gmail.comCyrus (Webmail) imap.iu.eduExchange imap.exchange.iu.edu
- For the account type, select
IMAP4. (You may need to clickNext.)
- Enter your username. For Cyrus or Exchange,
this is your Network ID username. For Imail or
Umail, this is your complete email address (e.g.,
joeshmoe@umail.iu.edu).
- Enter your Network ID passphrase (Cyrus or Exchange) or vendor
password (Imail or Umail) if it is not already there, and then tap

- For the outgoing mail server, enter the server name that
corresponds to your service:
Imail pod51000.outlook.comUmail smtp.gmail.comCyrus (Webmail) mail-relay.iu.eduExchange mail-relay.iu.edu
- Check
Outgoing server requires authentication.
- Select
Advanced Server Settings.
- Check
Require SSL for both incoming and outgoing emails, and then tapDone.
- Make sure
Use the same user name and password for sending e-mailis checked, and then tapNext.
- Specify how often you want to check your email, and then click
Finish.
- Select
Yesto download new messages.
