Project: IU Certificate Authority (IUCA)
Primary UITS contact: Nate Johnson
Last update: August 21, 2009
Description: The Indiana University Certificate Authority (IUCA) offers SSL certificates for production use at IU for a reduced cost through the Thawte SPKI program. The IUCA also offers SSL server certificates for testing, staging, and development purposes, as well as services internal to IU with a limited number of users. These certificates are offered at no cost to IU employees and affiliates.
Milestones and status:
- July 2006: Service launched
Comment process: Send email to CA admin.
Benefits: By providing SSL/TLS server certificates (certs) for production use at IU for a reduced cost, and certs for testing, staging, and development at no cost, this project cuts IT operational costs, and encourages the use of certs signed by a legitimate certificate authority, rather than self-signed certs that are vulnerable to Man in the Middle (MITM) attacks.
