Description: IU Mobile is a web portal service designed specifically for mobile devices. The portal, at https://m.iu.edu, offers convenient online access to information about IU and all its campuses, including news, campus alerts, a student and staff address directory, classifieds, and Oncourse CL, the university's collaboration and learning environment.
Over time, a variety of services will be offered as the mobile team partners with all campuses to create applications specific to the needs of each campus's target audiences. In an effort to cultivate a culture of continuous innovation for mobility at IU and to provide users with what they desire most in this environment, the service asks for feedback. This gives users a way to request additional applications for IU Mobile and to make suggestions for the continued development and improvement of the service. Feedback from users will drive decisions on what to include within IU Mobile and help us determine priority for planned additions and enhancements.
Milestones and status:
- May 1, 2009: Town hall meeting with representatives from all campuses to get their input for initial development and to raise awareness of the mobile project
- August 11, 2009: ITOC presentation to outline the mobile project, raise awareness of our strategy for working with campuses to incorporate content specific for their users, and to gather more feedback from each campus
- August 13, 2009: Quiet release - The initial release of the mobile site includes the following applications: Oncourse, People, Bus Schedules, STC Availability, News, Campus Alerts, IT Notices, Emergency Contacts, Search IU, and Feedback
- September 3, 2009: Official release - This release will introduce new applications: a view-only version of OneStart, Classifieds, Events, and Coming Soon (to outline new features & apps the mobile team is working on)
- September 15, 2009: Making IT Happen, Bloomington - Promote IU Mobile, raise awareness, and gather feedback from users
- September 29, 2009: Making IT Happen, IUPUI - Promote IU Mobile, raise awareness, and gather feedback from users
- October 1, 2009: Statewide IT Conference - presentation on mobile strategy to raise awareness, obtain feedback, and recruit partners for collaboration

Benefits: Provides users at all IU campuses with pertinent information via their mobile devices. Systems designed specifically for mobile will load quicker and display in a more usable manner than standard sites, allowing users to more efficiently access desired information.
