At IU, how do I connect to my Exchange account with Android?
To set up your Exchange account on an Android device, see the instructions for your version:
On this page:
Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
- From the
Applicationsmenu, selectSettings> Accounts & sync> Add Account> Exchange(orCorporate).
- If your device gives you the option, choose
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
- Enter your IU email address and
passphrase, and then tap
Next. If the device does not automatically detect the server settings, tap the screen to manually enter the following:

Domain\username:
ADS\username - Password: your IU Network ID passphrase

Exchange server:
www.exchange.iu.edu
Leave
Use secure connection (SSL)checked, andAccept all SSL certificatesunchecked. TapNext. -
Domain\username:
- A pop-up window titled
Remote security administrationwill appear with the following message:The server www.exchange.iu.edu requires that you allow it to remotely control some security features of your Android device. Do you want to finish setting up this account?
To proceed with configuring your email, tap
OK. - To set up your sync options, select
Email,Contacts,Calendar, and any other sync preferences. If this is your primary email account, checkSend email from this account by default. TapNext.
- The
Activate device administrator?window will appear, detailing the operations the Email app can perform remotely in case of security concerns; these are:
- Erase all data
- Set password rules
- Monitor screen-unlock attempts
- Lock the screen
- Set lock-screen password expiration
- Set storage encryption
- Disable cameras
You must allow these security precautions in order to proceed; tap
Activate.Note: These security policies are available for Android, but are not currently being enforced by Exchange.
- A message will tell you that your account is set up. Enter a
name for your account, if you want; you may also leave the default
name. Tap
Next.
Note: If you are unable to sync items such as Exchange tasks or notes, you could consider purchasing and downloading an application called Touchdown; a 30-day free trial version is available. UITS does not endorse, support, or guarantee this solution, but some have reported success.
Note: By default, Exchange will allow up to 10 mobile device partnerships. If you experience issues setting up an Exchange account on your mobile device, you may want to verify how many devices you have partnered with Exchange; see In Outlook Web App, how can I manage my Exchange ActiveSync device?
Note: If you are having trouble sending and receiving mail on your Android device, you may want to remove the email account and then re-add it. Check your device instructions for assistance.
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and earlier
Note: In some versions of Gingerbread, the
Remote security administration and Activate device
administrator? notifications described in the instructions above may appear.
- From the
