At IU, how do I configure SSL VPN with the Junos Pulse application on my iOS device?

Junos Pulse is a client application produced by Juniper Networks, which currently hosts the IU Secure environment at Indiana University, that connects your device to the IU SSL VPN; Junos Pulse is the preferred application for VPN connections at IU. See What is Junos Pulse?

Junos Pulse is available for iOS 4.1 devices or later. To check the version of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, from Settings, select General> About, and look under "Version".

If your device is at least 4.1, follow these instructions to connect to the IU SSL VPN:

Initial configuration

  1. Open the App Store.

  2. Enter junos pulse in the search.

  3. Select Juniper Networks Inc. Junos Pulse.

  4. Tap Install, and follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. Start the Junos Pulse application.

  6. Tap Configuration> Add new configuration.

  7. Enter IU SSL VPN as the name.

  8. Enter https://vpn.iu.edu as the URL.

  9. Tap Save.

Connecting and disconnecting

  1. Open the Junos Pulse app.

  2. Select the IU SSL VPN configuration.

  3. Tap Connect.

  4. When prompted, enter your Network ID username and passphrase, and then tap Go or Sign In. With the VPN connection established, "VPN" will appear next to the Wi-Fi signal icon or the battery charge indicator.

You can now press the Home button to exit Junos Pulse, and then access resources that require an IU VPN connection. To disconnect from the VPN service, open Junos Pulse, and then tap Disconnect.
