Default storage space allotments for UITS accounts

Following are the default storage space allotments for various UITS accounts provided as baseline services to the Indiana University community.

Depending on the account and your circumstances, you may be able to request an increase above the default allotment (see individual account entries for instructions). However, only the account owner can submit such a request. Your request must include the Network ID username associated with the account, the name of the system (e.g., Box or Exchange), and the amount of additional storage space you need.

Service Account Storage allotment
Cloud storage Box Default: 100 GB

To request additional space, email details to the Accounts Administration Team. Your request will be reviewed by system administrators; increases may not always be possible.
Email systems Cyrus mail Default: 500 MB

To request an increase, contact your campus Support Center.
IU Exchange Default: 2 GB

To request additional space, email details to the UITS Accounts Administration team.
Imail Default: 25 GB

Storage allotments for Imail accounts are set by Microsoft; UITS cannot increase your allotment.
Umail Default: 30 GB

Storage allotments for Umail accounts are set by Google; UITS cannot increase your allotment.
Learning management systems Oncourse Resources Defaults:
  • 4 GB for course, project, and portfolio sites
  • 1 GB for My Workspace

Faculty and staff can request storage increases for course sites. Send your request to the Oncourse team (include an explanation of why you need the extra space); alternatively, contact your campus Support Center.
Canvas Files tool

Note: Storage in Canvas is intended only for purposes directly related to course and group work. For general-purpose storage needs, choose another option (e.g., Box); see At IU, what options do I have for storing files?
Defaults:
  • 4 GB for courses
  • 300 MB for groups
  • 1 GB for individuals

Faculty and staff can request storage increases for courses. Send your request to UITS Learning Management Systems (include an explanation of why you need the extra space); alternatively, contact your campus Support Center.
Electronic Document Management (EDM) OnBase

Note: OnBase is the official records repository for all institutional data. IU's university-wide enterprise license makes OnBase software available at no cost to all IU departments, schools, and campuses.
Default: Unlimited

Collaboration and file sharing SharePoint

Note: SharePoint provides IU departments and units online storage for document management and collaboration. SharePoint My Sites are available to individual graduate students.
Default: 20 GB

To request additional space for team or personal SharePoint site, email details to the UITS Accounts Administration team. Your request will be reviewed by system administrators; increases may not always be possible.
REDCap

Note: REDCap is a web-based database management tool for capturing and sharing research data. REDCap is administered by the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (Indiana CTSI) for use by biomedical researchers at IU, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame.
Default: Unlimited

Alfresco Share

Note: Alfresco Share is an online platform for capturing and sharing information in support of academic research. Alfresco Share is administered by the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (Indiana CTSI) for use by biomedical researchers at IU, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame.
Default: Unlimited

Web content Pages

Note: The Pages service for professional, research, instructional, and academic web pages is hosted on Mercury (mercury.uits.indiana.edu. If you will be using your web pages for official IU business related to your organizational unit, approved professional organization, or registered student group, then you should request an account on Webserve.
Default: 1 GB

Storage space increases are currently not available.
