Security & policies

IU has more than 130,000 students, faculty, and staff. IU Public Safety and Institutional Assurance (PSIA) works to make sure each one of us stays informed, prepared, and protected. Stay up-to-date on the latest security bullets, campus alerts, and computer security tips via PSIA's website, Protect IU

Protect your data

Using the Internet without security protection is risky, but IU helps protect you by offering security programs and information. Take the following steps to safeguard your computer and information.

  • Install security software: Protect your computer from viruses, adware, and spyware by downloading and installing security software available from IUware
  • Keep all software updated: Configure your operating system and application software to automatically download and install updates.  Create a monthly reminder to manually check and install updates for applications which can’t be automatically updated.  For more information, visit Microsoft or Apple's support sites for instructions.
  • Back up information: Use cloud storage (available at no cost via Box at IU), USB flash drives, or external hard drives to back up important files and information

Be sure to report potential information security issues for additional protection, and pay attention to IT alerts for information about digital security.
