CRIMSONCARD ELIGIBILITY

All current IU students, faculty, and staff who have never had a CrimsonCard are eligible to receive the digital CrimsonCard at no cost.

Already have a physical CrimsonCard? You can switch to the digital version at any time. Please note your physical Crimsoncard will be deactivated once the digital version is set up.

Digital CrimsonCard Information

  • New students participating in a university sanctioned orientation will receive instructions from their orientation leaders on how to set up their digital CrimsonCard.

  • New students not attending orientation can begin the process of receiving their digital CrimsonCard at no cost by uploading a valid photo and identity documentation starting 2 days after registering for classes.

Once approved, instruction on how to set up your digital CrimsonCard will be provided.

  • New employees can begin the process of receiving their digital CrimsonCard at no cost by uploading a valid photo and identity documentation once their information has been finalized in IU’s HR system.

Faculty and employees of Indiana University with emeritus or retiree status are eligible to receive a digital CrimsonCard at no cost. Eligible individuals may use the photo currently on file—as long as it is valid and not expired—or upload a new one after their information has been updated in the university’s HR system.

Affiliates are individuals who are not enrolled students or IU employees, but who require a CrimsonCard to access university services, systems, or facilities. The cost of an affiliate CrimsonCard is $35.

Affiliates are eligible for physical CrimsonCards only. 

To request a card, the sponsoring IU department must complete and submit the Affiliate Card Request Form. This form can only be accessed and submitted by full-time IU employees.

Once submitted, the request will be reviewed. If approved, confirmation and next steps will be sent to the requestor, sponsor, and affiliate via email.

Note: Incomplete forms will not be accepted. The sponsoring department is responsible for ensuring all required information—including the affiliate’s full name—is accurately entered before submission.

Guest cards are available to individuals who would like to make purchases using a CrimsonCard, although restrictions apply to the usage of these cards.

Employees and affiliates can bill replacement costs to their department or organization.  Simply complete an Expense Authorization Form, and you'll be notified when your submission is approved. 

Collection Fees: In the event a CrimsonAccount has an outstanding balance for 30 days or more, the account may be sent to University Collections. Cardholder is responsible for any fees associated with University’s attempt to collect any outstanding balance.

Credit Card Chargeback Fees: University reserves the right to recover any chargeback fees assessed by the processor.

A bursar term refers to the period during which students can charge expenses, such as a CrimsonCard deposit, to their bursar account for a specific semester. To bill a deposit to their bursar account, students must be enrolled in classes for the current bursar term.

General CrimsonCard FAQ's

No, your initial CrimsonCard, whether digital or physical, is provided at no cost to new Indiana University employees and students. 

You may only have one active CrimsonCard at a time—either physical or digital, not both. 

If you set up your digital CrimsonCard on your device, you will not be eligible to receive a physical card.

If you obtain a physical CrimsonCard first and later switch to digital, your physical card will be deactivated once the digital version is set up.

There is no cost to set up, remove, or reinstall your digital CrimsonCard—it can be managed freely on your device. However, replacing a lost or damaged physical CrimsonCard costs $35.

 

You can set up your digital CrimsonCard from anywhere. Physical CrimsonCards can be obtained by current students or employees at any IU campus utilizing this form.

 

Accepted forms of payment include credit/debit card, Apple or Android pay and bursar billing for eligible students.
