Online learning tool that uses a variety of media and methods to enhance student engagement
On this page:
VoiceThread is a learning tool for enhancing student engagement and online presence. With VoiceThread, instructors and/or students can create, share, and comment on images, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, videos, audio files, documents, and PDFs, using microphone, webcam, text, phone, and audio-file upload. At Indiana University, VoiceThread is an external tool that integrates into Canvas.
VoiceThread also has iOS and Android apps for accessing VoiceThreads in Canvas courses; for instructions, see Sign into VoiceThread mobile apps.
You can add VoiceThread to the same course multiple times. For example, if you want to link directly to three different VoiceThreads in your course, add three separate VoiceThread placements, one for each thread.
To create a graded assignment in VoiceThread, you'll need to create a Canvas assignment that uses an external tool as the submission type. To do so:
For instructions on setting up the activity you have planned, see Configure VoiceThread activities and assignments.
To add VoiceThread to a Canvas module, follow the instructions in How do I add an external tool as a module item? Be sure to select the tool named VoiceThread and, in the "Page Name" field, enter a descriptive name for your VoiceThread activity. For instructions on setting up the activity you have planned, see Configure VoiceThread activities and assignments.
For more on setting up activities and assignments, see Configure VoiceThread activities and assignments.
For VoiceThread instructions, see VoiceThread Support.
Instructors can get help using technology in their teaching at the teaching and learning centers on each campus.
