Basically, eth (ð) is a voiced dental fricative (like in this, that, these, other), and thorn (þ) is an unvoiced dental fricative (like in thin, think, thank). The pronounciation of Gothi in RTTE shows us that she cannot be a goði, because characters clearly pronounce it as goþi.
