The propellers of drones harbour a risk: people can be injured by the rotating blades and objects or the drone itself can be damaged in the event of collisions. The eleven-member team of the Avero focus project has therefore set itself the goal of relocating the propellers inside the drone: the propellers are located in tubes and the generated airflow is controlled by swivelling nozzles. With this drive, the drone can rotate in any orientation around two more axes than conventional models and fly close to objects. Possible areas of application include inspection tasks on infrastructures that are difficult to access and in busy environments such as construction sites.
