All students will be auto-enrolled, while faculty and staff can easily opt in. The course is available via IU Expand. You can enroll by visiting go.iu.edu/genai101
No, this course is not required.
While you cannot unenroll from GenAI 101, you are not required to take the course.
This course is completely optional, carries no academic credit, and will not appear on transcripts. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to explore it at their own pace.
This course will help you be career-ready and stand out to employers when you graduate. When you complete the course, you’ll receive an official IU GenAI 101 Certified Credential that you can share on LinkedIN and add to your resume. AI literacy is rapidly becoming a core skill in the job market as it can help you boost your efficiency and creativity. GenAI 101 will teach you how to use AI as a personal thought partner, increase your productivity, and create high-impact results faster across projects, papers, and more. It’s a tool – not a replacement for your ingenuity.
No, this course is offered free of charge using tools that are already available to the IU community.
GenAI 101 gives you practical skills in prompt engineering, productivity tools, and idea generation. You will also learn about fact-checking and the ethical use of AI. Generative AI can be a useful tool whether you’re studying art, business, education, or healthcare. The course helps you build a standout resume with 20 in-demand GenAI skills.
The course is available via IU Expand. You can enroll by visiting go.iu.edu/genai101. All students will be enrolled automatically while all staff and faculty can enroll themselves. Those enrolled in the course will access the modules in Canvas.
This course takes approximately 4 to 5 hours to complete from beginning to end. The course is broken up into 8 modules - each module has 2 lessons, and each lesson is broken up into videos that are all less than 10 minutes each. You can take the course at your own pace.
While there are questions in the modules, there are no assignments or deadlines in this course.
